Easy and rich annotations

Now that all your images are organized in Mayachitra imago, you can start annotating them. imago's easy and rich annotation tool will help you to measure the length or the area of the object you are interested in (e.g. cell or tissue) as well as to create a publication-ready image.

First double click an image to open the "image viewer" screen. Then find your annotation tools on the top-center of the screen.

Annotate with an ellipse

Annotate a region with Ellipse, Rectangle, or Polygon

You can annotate the interesting region of an image with ellipse, rectangle, or polygon.

In order to draw an ellipse or rectangle,

  1. Select ellipse Annotation: circle or rectangle Annotation: rectangle tool from imago's annotation tools.
  2. Position the pointer inside the image and click and drag.
  3. A text box will be displayed in white inside of ellipse or rectangle that you drew.
For the polygon,
  1. Select polygon Annotation: polygon tool from imago's annotation tools.
  2. Create your 'points' on the image. Each time you click, imago will create a polygon with the points.
  3. When you want to finish adding point to a polygon, double click on the last point you like to add.

Change the color and opacity of your drawing.

Select the drawing you would like to edit and right click . Simply choose the color you would like to change to and modify the transparency of the drawing with the slider bar after clicking Opacity.

You can create a mask from an ellipse, a rectangle, or a polygon.

Draw the line

imago's line tool is to draw straight line or arrows on an image. It is pretty intuitive.

  1. Simply choose the line Annotation: polygon tool.
  2. Click once on the canvas to specify the beginning point of your line and then drag the mouse to define the line extending from the starting point.

As a default, the arrowhead will be displayed at the end point of your line.

Modify the color and the opacity of the line.

Edit the color and opacity of line by right click. Simply choose the color and modify the transparency of the line by slider bar after click menu Opacity.

You can remove or modify the arrowhead.

Choose the line and right click. Select menu Line and you can change the thickness by slider bar. You can add or remove arrowheads and also modify the width and the length of them.

Add text

You can annotate the interesting regions of an image by simply adding text.

In order to add text,

  1. Select Annotation: text from imago's annotation tools.
  2. Position the pointer inside the image and click and drag.
  3. A cursor will be blinking within the text box.

Change the properties of a text box.

Select a text box you would like to edit and right click. Change the color, size of the text.

  1. Change the background color of the text box.
  2. Change the text color.
  3. Increase/decrease the font size.
  4. Make the text bold.
  5. Adjust the opacity of the background.

Manual counting tool

You can use imago's counting tool to count objects in an image. To count objects manually,

  1. Select a manual counting tool Annotation: manual counting from imago's annotation tools.
  2. Click the image with a counting tool and imago tracks the number of clicks. The total count is displayed when you move mouse over any of clicks.

Change the properties of the manual counts.

In order to change the color or opacity of your counts, double click any of your clicks and right click. Change the color and the opacity as you like.

Add a scale bar

You can add a scale bar with a simple click. Select Annotation: scale bar from annotation tools. The scale bar will be added on top of your image.

Change the properties of a scale bar.

Select a scale bar and right click. Change the color, size of the text.

  1. Change the width of the scale bar.
  2. Change the height of the scale bar.
  3. Change the background color of the scale bar.
  4. Change the text and the bar color.
  5. Increase/decrease the font size.
  6. Make the text bold.
  7. Adjust the opacity of a bar and a background.
  8. Hide text: display only a bar.

Measure the length of a tissue

imago's ruler tool calculate the distance between two points in the image. Select imago's ruler tool Annotation: ruler. Click once on the canvas to define a starting point on the image and drag the mouse to extend the line. imago will show the distance as you drag the mouse.
