Powerful unified search
Search the image you want to work with by image name, annotation, your own tags, embedded metadata, analysis results, or any combination of the above. You can spend more time analyzing and learning from images. Mayachitra imago helps you to organize your images based on search results. Search results can be easily grouped into a data set by user tags.
Search is simple. Most of the time you can find images you want, however, following these tips will help you to refine your technique. First, select Search button from the right top of the album viewer.
From the drop-down search panel, you can add multiple search filters to find specific images from your albums.

Search options
- Search Range: Images are searched only within the current album by default. You can include sub-albums and also expand search scope to All Albums.
- Search Type: Search is usually case sensitive. You can refine search result by choosing Match Case. Regular Expression is a special text string for describing a search pattern.
- Filter Combination: Combine multiple search criteria by AND or OR.

Search by Name
Click
and choose Name.
Type part or all of the file name you are looking for. For example, to find an image called retinal_membrane.tif, you can type ret or mem.
Search by Annotation
Click
and choose Annotation.
When you click
button, all images with annotations will be displayed in the image viewer. Type any words of part of words you used to annotate images.
Search by User Tag
Tags are words or phrases you use to describe your images.
Click
and choose User Tag. imago provides 7 tags for you. Of course, you can create your own tags to describe your experiment setup and subject.
- Dataset label: your dataset label. The multiple images can be grouped by a dataset label. Type part or all of your dataset label.
- Experimenter: who performed the experiment.
- Species: the type of species under experiment. Choose one from the list box.
- Tissue origin: the type of tissue. Choose one from the list box.
- Microscope: the type of microscope used (e.g. bright field microscope or confocal laser scanning microscope). Choose one from the list box.
- Magnification: lens magnification.
- Note: any note or description. Type any keyword in this text box.
You don't need to remember the exact tag you created.
When you click
button , imago already provides you with all images with the selected tag.
Search by Publication
Click
and choose Publication.
Type any search text in your publication tag. For example, you can type one of the author names, a part of the title, or a journal name.
Search by Embedded Metadata
Metadata is accessory information that describes the acquisition system (e.g. microscope, laser intensity, pixel resolution, etc) and basic information about an image (e.g. date created, size, and so on). imago provides 16 metadata fields associated with an image.
Click
and choose Embedded Metadata. Select one or multiple metadata fields. Type the exact value or guess the range of the value. For example, choose
and type 256 in the Image Width, imago will search for all images whose width are greater than or equal to 256 pixels.

- Image Height
- Bit Per Sample: the number of bits used to represent the color of a single pixel in a bitmapped image. For example, 8-bit pixel can represent 256 colors.
- Pixel Resolution XY: pixel resolution on X/Y axis per pixel (e.g. 0.2 µm per pixel).
- Pixel Resolution Unit XY: resolution unit (pixel, nm, µm, or mm).
- Pixel Resolution Z: pixel resolution on Z axis per pixel.
- Pixel Resolution Unit Z: resolution unit (pixel, nm, µm, or mm).
- Pixel Resolution T: temporal resolution (e.g. 0.5 ms).
- Pixel Resolution Unit T: resolution unit (ms or s).
- Number of Time Frames: the number of time frames in multi-page image.
- Number of Z Frames: the number of z frames in multi-page image.
- Number of Channels: the number of channels.
- Image Format: image file format (e.g. jpg, tif, png, oib, and so on). Choose one from the list box.
- Date Modified: the date an image was modified. Move the slider bar to specify the range of importing date.
- Date Created: the date an image was created. Move the slider bar to specify the range of importing date.
- Date Imported: the date an image was imported. Move the slider bar to specify the range of importing date.
Search by Analysis result
imago features search by two image analysis results: cell counting result and cell analysis result. Click
and choose Analysis Result. Choose Cell Counting or Cell Analysis.
Choose Cell Counting (similar approach for Cell Analysis), select one of features.
- Any Result: all images with cell counting results.
- Count: a cell counting result.
For example, if you want to search all image with more than 100 cells, select
and type 100 in the text box. - Density: a cell density (e.g. 1000 cells/mm2).
- Performed date: the date and time the cell counting was performed. Move a slider to specify the date range.
Save your search result
You can save the search result as a Smart Album. Click
on the right bottom of the Search panel. Type an album name you want in the dialogue box. You can organize your search result easily. imago automatically updates a Smart Album when any images that matches the search criteria is added to or removed from your Albums.
